About the Event

This month's featured artist Mr. Sherwin Tan subscribes to the notion that an artist can be happy and not angst-ridden—and still produce good works. Through his pieces, he interprets what life is and how it should be lived.

Sherwin Tan attributes his talent to a Supreme Being. He believes that his mission as an artist is to share the Creator’s gift of hope. Thus inspired, he has developed a minimalist approach to painting.

Sherwin Tan

Sherwin Tan is a Fine Arts graduate. He has rendered his art not just on the traditional paper or canvas, but also on such challenging surfaces as ostrich eggs, glazed ceramic masks and ceramic tiles.

Joining him in the inner gallery are Mr. Jonathan Rañola and Mr. Sherwin Paul Gonzales.

Mr. Jonathan Rañola draws from his varied childhood past to recreate spellbound vignettes of half weakened dreams—points of texture and density, interwoven with myths and lore. His subjects, whether in response or in influx, are silent vessels of human emotions. His adept use of symbolism unifies viewer, the artifact and the artisan in the common and universal human experience.

Jonathan Ranola

Mr. Jonathan Rañola has had several solo art exhibitions and has participated in several group shows at prestigious venues such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Ayala Museum, Vargas Museum and other prominent art galleries. A total of his paintings are on permanent display at the luxurious Raffles hotel in Makati.

Mr. Sherwin Paul Gonzales explores the feeling of Grandiose in his pieces by way of expressing the human psyche through the expression of music, dance, and performance in a magnificent style that is opulent, majestic, and glorious.  The artist relates it to the feeling of neurotic delusion of egocentrism as the feeling of being above all and being the center of the universe.

Sherwin Paul Gonzales

Obsessed with Freudian psychology, Gonzales also explores two instincts—Thanatos and Libido In his artworks, one can feel a passion for life under the desire for death—indeed two contrasting aspects that motivate us to create grandiose things that drives us to set out beyond life. His works are also a fusion of music and dance, gestures and forms which coalesce in a harmonious symphony. Set in Neo-Baroque style, his works are a juxtaposition of love and death.

Mr. Gonzales won the Grand Prize for the Art Association of the Philippines & Hotel Luna National Painting Competition in 2015, Best Exhibition, Vienna Annuale at the Museum of Young Art at Vienna, Austria in 2014 among many others.

You may visit Art Elements at SM Aura 3/f to see their works until February 18, 2019. For more information, kindly e-mail artelements@surfshop.net.ph.
