Art in Poblacion: Art Auction at the Heart of Makati's Most Creative District
Arts and Culture / Other Events
About the Event
A revolution in the Philippine art scene is brewing, and experts of both contemporary and classical art are coming together for a showcase unlike any other.
Harringtons Lifestyle Auction, in collaboration with avant-garde French art hub Taverne Gutenberg, will hold it first "Art in Poblacion" where more than 100 artistic creations of both local and foreign visionaries will be up for auction.
The Ruins at Poblacion will act as the venue for the event. Long cited as one of Makati's main cultural and historical landmarks, Poblacion is famous for its vibrant mix of the different underground art, food, and music scenes that are now piercing the public consciousness.
Pieces and Insights from Perceptive Creators
"Art in Poblacion" will feature many prominent artists in the Philippine art scene today. Henri Lamy, co-founder of the Taverne Gutenberg and figurative painter, will be part of the event. As an artist, Lamy's approach is completely unique. Combining impressionist methods with an abstract style (and even using capoeira at times), the artist's works strike a balance between hyperrealism and messiness.
Olivia d'Aboville will also be present for the auction. A decorated artist in her own right, d'Aboville had previously held acclaimed art and design exhibitions in Paris, Singapore, New York, and Manila. The French-Filipino artist primarily utilizes mass-produced products and transforms them into art. Using that approach, d'Aboville also contributes to environmental preservation.
Popular actress and TV host Solenn Heussaff will also be joining the fray. The actress has held art exhibits before, namely "Our People" and "Kalsada". Heussaff, who is quite vocal about her passion for art, will auction some of her original artwork at the event.
Another creator showing up for the auction is Dee Jae Pa'este, a prominent street artist known for his murals in different dining spots and buildings across Metro Manila. Pa'este, whose works can be seen in establishments such as the Hole in the Wall, Palace Pool Club, and Mighty Quinn's, will be unveiling more of his work at "Art in Poblacion".
French-Irish muralist Alexandre Beretta will also be present for the auction. His extensive immersion in art, driven by his 3-year education in drawing, sketching, painting, architecture, perspective, and even anatomy makes him a well-equipped artist with a resourceful mind and sharp ideas.
Also collaborating with the auction is KMC Solutions, one of the country’s top flexible workspace providers. The company will showcase artworks by Indonesian and Indian artists, whose works are currently displayed at its co-working spaces across the metro, made possible by its partnership with Singapore-based online art platform Mayinart.
Aside from featured foreign artists, highlight of this auction also includes Local Masters. Sought after Sculptor Ronald Castrillo will also auction one of his unique piece custom made especially for Harringtons Lifestyle Auction.
To compliment the contemporary art works, Art in Poblacion will also be auctioning off selected unique furniture pieces.
