About the Event

As a contemporary painter, experiencing the natural environment is an integral part of his creative process. Herbert Pajarito’s observations of the natural world serve as the source of inspiration for the work that he makes. Through these, Pajarito examines the power and fragility of nature caught in a state of flux between obliteration and renewal.

Zymurgy

The formal issues addressed for “Zymurgy” stem from his interest in the tensions between abstraction and representation, order and chaos, and the natural versus the artificial. These polarities are fitting to his theme as they mirror the science, technology, and its conflict in the art and its development today. Within these polarities lies a visual language that Herbert Pajarito finds challenging and exciting to explore.

In this collection, the elements of time, energy, growth, and decay, life and death are represented by Pajarito’s unique style of layering and controlled patterning. As the title suggests, “Zymurgy” is the practice of fermentation, and Pajarito lets each of his work grow organically allowing for entropy and reflecting a range of processes and patterns encountered in the natural world. From this chemical reaction of brewing comes beauty, and from destruction comes construction. With this various processes and aspects in the natural world, Herbert Pajarito explores the mysterious patterns that connect us all.

Herbert Pajarito is born in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro, and now resides at Silang, Cavite. Pajarito takes a different approach in technique and style as he painstakingly rendered colorful and intricately designed symbols, images and abstract representations of his explorations. The artist is known for art that is composed of layers of lines, stretching out from the canvas like tree branches.

A digital fine arts graduate from Adventist University of the Philippines, Pajarito has won the Grand Prize at the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE 2013), and First Prize at the 66th Art Association of the Philippines Annual Awards (2013). He was also a finalist at the 2012 Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards, and recently garnered an honorable mention nod at the 2015 GSIS Painting Competition.
