About the Event

After the tremendous success of  “Of Thrones and Tiaras: An Evening of Opera and Musical Theater Royalty” last December and January, OperaJuan is back again to present a Mother’s Day concert: “Hello, Gorgeous”, a tribute to the music of legendary theater, film, TV, and recording artist, Barbra Streisand.

Hello Gorgeous

Founder and Artistic Director Renz Nathaniel Cruz, a fan of La Streisand’s work, recalls her artistic contribution to his life: “My mom used to play ‘Tell Him’ (her famous duet with another great diva of popular music, Celine Dion) all the time at the living room when I was young, and I remember thinking how distinct and beautiful her voice was. My mom and I enjoyed listening to that song and I believe her music resonates with many ‘nanays’, ‘titas’, and ‘lolas’, having sustained a highly successful career in show business for many decades. This, I believe, is why honoring her this month of mothers would be absolutely perfect.” Cruz adds, “Years later, I saw ‘Funny Girl’ and ‘Yentl’ and fell in love with her artistry even more. I discovered her very wide repertoire, which not only included pop and musical theater hits, but also classical music. I couldn’t believe it at first but she sang Handel, Schubert, Debussy, Wolf, and more! This woman is truly an incomparable legend!

The show is intimate in nature and will feature selections from Barbras’ extensive song catalogue which includes musical theater standards, pop hits, movie theme songs, and even select arias and art songs taken from her critically acclaimed “Classical Barbra” album.

So bring your momma along at the Manila Pianos, 5PM, on Labor Day (May 1, 2019) and catch these talented singers perform La Streisand’s greatest hits: Kimberly Adam, Aubrey Marie Buenvenida, Allison Rose Cervantes, Renz Nathaniel Cruz, Eden Lorrice Dumlao, Shanna Loise Garcia, Cris Go, Aindrielle Madelo, Phi Palmos, and Tomy Virtucio, with pianist Obel Alalong.

The show is directed by Renz Nathaniel Cruz.
