About the Event

Raul Isidro is often drawn to the landscape as his starting point. The artist’s initial concern is to depict nature in its basic form interpreted by hues, light, motion, depth and mood. As an artist, inspiration for Isidro comes from many origins, from his surroundings, his hometown, and even in the conceived imagination of those artists who have gone before him. Isidro has since produced a range of vibrant abstract artworks, with an approach to creating new ones from a highly experimental approach.

Formative Reflections

Noticeable at once is the concurrence between the physical world and Isidro’s creations. For “Formative Reflections (Meditations on Summer)”, Isidro uses shape and form to define the context of nature’s wondrous phenomena. His work resembles no one else’s: they are tender, pensive, intensely concerned with color and silhouette, being the artist’s essential parameter for perceiving the world. Important themes in Isidro’s works include the source of his inspiration, context of the subject, its representative purpose, its abstract transfiguration, and its continuous flow in the context of art and life.

Raul Isidro’s work may be seen as a mirroring and an attempt to interpret the splendor of nature. Through the years, he has learned to set some parameters, focusing himself to certain colors or figurative interpretations to push his work in a direction that fundamentally leads to a series of kindred pieces.

This abstractionist, multi-awarded painter, and Filipino contemporary artist shares his time in promoting art and honing talents of next generation artists. A distinguished pioneer in the art field, Raul Isidro’s earnest belief that "art must be felt to be fully enjoyed" has strengthened his crusade to develop and encourage art appreciation in the grassroots. Demonstrating his creative genius in numerous media as a professional artist, Isidro's artistic accomplishments and creativity has been showcased in various art exhibitions locally and in foreign shores including Germany, Israel, Spain, China, the Netherlands, Australia, and the United States.

An influential personality from the 60’s to the present, Raul Isidro is a true visionary, never exhausted in exploring and venturing in the use of experimental media. He has worked on sculptures and started working on mixed media abstracts in the 60’s with the use of acrylic, firstly introduced in the country at the time. He experimented with the use of gold leaf on canvas in the late 80’s while in the United States, but has shown it publicly only in the early 90’s. Isidro’s works are predominantly influenced by the changing mood of mother earth and the environment.

“Formative Reflections (Meditations on Summer)” will be on view from April 26 to May 15, 2019 with the Artist Reception scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 at 6PM.
