About the Event
Ruler, scissors, glue, and of course the dismantled page of a book. Artist Sven Wilbur Lim had a dream. To be able to think of a way to mesh together what he knows.
He used up countless hours and sheets of paper for drawings, comic strips, and other sketches. Although he did not take up an art degree in college, his love for art did not falter. Instead, he chose to put art in his work, projects, and other presentations. As a licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer, his job is to program robotic arms to weld materials. Being truly amazed by how a robot moves and its combination of movements inspired his “Aha!” moment.
Because of his belief that God truly has a plan for him, he prayed for an answer to how he could pursue his love for art. His desire to create three-dimensional art started and he first tried to carve on wood (retasong kahoy) but found that it was hard to chip off the wood and would oftentimes cut himself. He turned to soap as an alternative. He was able to make flowers, animals, and trees. However, it still was too brittle, crumbling after just a little force, and it did not help that the artist has sweaty hands. After reading many reference materials and experimenting with different mediums for sculpting, Lim realized that he needed go back to books.
The artworks presented in Artipak holds on to a certain belief. The exhibit seeks to inspire those who dream, to show that the gift and talents given to us can be used in ways that we may not even begin to fathom, that it is not too late to pursue our dreams, that the world is excited to see our contributions.
