About the Event

The Cultural Center of the Philippines will pay homage to former CCP President and National Artist for Music Lucrecia R. Kasilag, fondly known as Tita King in a show billed as Tribute to the King: The Music of National Artist Lucrecia “King” Kasilag on September 22, 2018 at 3:00PM and 8:00PM at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater). The matinee show is open to the public for free while the evening performance is an invitational gala with certain sections available to the public.

Tribute to The King

Tribute to the King showcases the musical legacy of National Artist Lucrecia Kasilag featuring performances by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera, Ballet Philippines, Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company and Philippine Madrigal Singers.  Likewise, the show features guest artists such as violinist Gina Medina Perez, pianists Zenas Lozada, Joed Balsamo, Jet Stephen C. Chong and Vincent Saavedra, Kabataang Gitarista, Kilyawan Boys Choir, PWU Indayog Gongs, PWU Vocal Ensemble, SongWeavers Philippines and UST Guitar Ensemble. The production will be highlighted by the special participation of National Artist for Music Ramon P. Santos, National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes, artists Fides Cuyugan Asensio, Suzie Moya Benitez and Gener Karingal.  Tribute to the King is directed by Dexter M. Santos and script by Floy C. Quintos. Gino Gonzalez provides the set design while Meliton Roxas Jr. provides the lights design. Joed Balsamo and Melissa Corazon V. Mantaring are the program curators. 

Kasilag developed a musical language in her works that successfully put Filipino and Western musical elements alongside each other. She was a composer whose music spanned a wide variety of artistic forms and genres - ballet, theatre, opera, solo instruments, orchestra, chamber music, voice, and chorus.
