About the Event

Clarity and abstraction await at Artinformal this August with new exhibitions by Alvin Zafra, Costantino Zicarelli, and Nice Buenaventura.

Solo exhibition in Artinformal

CCP Thirteen Artist awardee Alvin Zafra takes us on a poignant journey along EDSA in his exhibition titled Hi-Way 54, featuring his trademark sandpaper works illustrating different stations along the infamous highway. Seemingly blurry, his depictions however clearly depict familiar locales on varied roughness of gray, continuing a tradition that enthralls all. Here, Zafra presents us a vision of a car-free EDSA.

Taking off from his last show at Artinformal in 2016, Prelude to a billion years, Costantino Zicarelli continues his foray into the unconventional with his upcoming show, ot/ a/ biillno/ aersyyears \billion \a \to. This exhibition delves further into the non-traditional with new works that are somehow similar to his last show but not quite by painting on a different medium. Black has never been as complex and as ethereal as with Zicarelli’s musings.

In her first solo exhibition at Artinformal, Nice Buenaventura brings calculated shapes and graphs from her ongoing series, Wave Drawings, to illustrate the disproportionate time it takes for her to complete her works. This involves and evolves from recording the rhythm of the drawing hand to translating graphs into gradients, resulting in what the artist refers to as “a documentation of a documentation.”

Artinformal invites audiences both curious and longing to witness how black, gray, and white, coupled with the varied approaches and techniques of Zafra, Zicarelli, and Buenaventura, can hold more layers of meaning and intention than one can initially guess.
