About the Event

The University of the Philippines College of Music Keyboard Department proudly presents the Inaugural Concert of the Lozada Piano Trio on April 21, 2017, Friday, 6:30 in the evening at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

The Lozada Piano Trio is composed of excellent, young and vibrant Filipino artists: violinist Ralph Waldo Taylan (MM in UP &concertmaster of ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra), cellist Giancarlo Gonzales (MA in Memphis, USA) and pianist Michelle Nicolasora (DMA in Collaborative Piano in Memphis, USA).It was formed to a) serve as resident piano trio of the UP College of Music Keyboard Department, b) bring the public closer to chamber music literature through performances, c) inspire Filipino composers to write music in this genre and d) provide an important tool in preparing violinists and cellists for orchestral playing in the country.

Founded by Tom Frinta and Ena Maria Aldecoa, the Trio was named in honor of Carmencita Lozada (1940-2006), the only Filipino concert violinist who won the International Paganini Competition twice in Genoa, Italy. She concertized all over the world, taught at the “Hochschulefür Musik, Theater und Medien” in Hannover, Germany and supported the education of young Filipino violin students.

The Inaugural Concert will feature Franz Joseph Haydn´s Piano Trio in C Major Hob. XV:27 (1795), Marie Jocelyn Marfil’s The Cry of the Bow and Chasing Time (2017) and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C Minor Op.66 (1845).
