About the Event

Mediartrix, the university-wide multimedia and musical theatre organization of the University of Santo Tomas, presents an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening as its major production for its 19th year.

A rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, it is based on the German play "Spring Awakening" written by Frank Wedekind in 1891. Set in late-19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of their sexuality while living in a repressive, ultraconservative society.

In this production, Emmanuel Go plays the headstrong Melchior Gabor. Aline Magana and Vincent Sumo will play the naive, and young Wendla and the intense and nervous Moritz, respectively. Thea Hernandez plays the free-spirited Ilse. The rest of the cast includes Kenneth Tornea as Hanschen, Clint Plaza as Georg, Mikaela Tagaylo as Martha, Carlos Molina as Otto, Seth Dungca as Ernst, Jamie Rose Tote as Thea, and Hannah Lazarte as Anna.

The multiple adult roles will be played by Willda Atienza and Abigail Cotaco as the adult females; and Elijah Loreto and Brylle San Gabriel as the adult males.

With Rhafaela Bacal as the show's production manager, this adaptation is directed by Mediartrix alumni Nico Varona and Marlon Villoso; with Jhon Michael Felismino as assistant director.

Eight shows will be staged from May 5-7 with the following schedule: May 5: 2 PM and 6 PM May 6 and 7: 9 AM, 1 PM, and 5 PM Tickets are worth PhP 150; you can buy from Rhafi at (63 917) 648-7185 or Carinna at (63 915) 374-5100 or by visiting the Mediartrix Office at the UST Tan Yan Kee Student Center Room 4B.
