About the Event

ArtistVenture in conjunction with International Artist Ensemble proudly presents ¡PIAZZOLLA! Not only tango, featuring artists from Russia, Armenia, Singapore, Bulgaria and the Philippines.

The program of Argentinean music centers on Ástor Piazzolla’s broad range of astonishing melodies, including such famous works as “Oblivion”, “Libertango” and “La Paloma”. Creative dance choreography will also accompany selected compositions.

Argentinean composer Ástor Piazzolla (1921-1992) famously founded a new style of traditional tango music, which became known as “Nuevo Tango”. By incorporating elements of jazz and classical music in to the traditional style he sparked much controversy in his native land, contesting the old Argentine saying “In Argentina everything may change - except the tango”. However, despite the resistance he experienced at home, his music soon gained acceptance in Europe and North America and before long was being performed in major concert halls worldwide.

With 2012 marking the 20th anniversary of his death, Piazzolla’s music is more popular than ever, quite often leaving people surprised that so many familiar tunes are all attributed to the same composer.
