About the Event
Journey with Kules from perya (circus) to Olympus in Ateneo Children’s Theater’s annual production for its 81st season, Christine S. Bellen’s Kules.
This Filipino musical is an adaptation of the Greek tale Hercules. The main character Kules, goes on a journey to self-discovery. Set in a perya (circus) where amusement is at the core of all activities, the life of the crew is a testimony that happiness is indeed fleeting.
While everyone manages to mask his insecurities and somehow come out a star performer in his act, Kules gets by each day without an ounce of confidence. On his birthday, the 11th anniversary of the day his adoptive parents found him, he gets confronted by two figures promising to lead him to discover his identity. Bisyo (vice), who presents himself as Happiness, assures Kules of experiencing what he has always been yearning for - a good life. Opposite to Bisyo is Kagandahang Asal (virtue), who vows to help Kules discover his inner strength.
The play reveals the human capacity to surpass the lofty ideals of beauty, strength, and power that have long been ingrained in human consciousness. It is about the value of friendship and its potential to bring forth great things. Behind the production is a directorial team headed by Ace M. Elgar, together with JJ D. Ignacio and Adrian C. Reyes.
Rediscover the road to triumph and glory at the Irwin Theater, Ateneo Grade School.
