About the Event

October will usher in a colorful and unique celebration at the Shrine of St. Therese, located in Barangay Villamor, Pasay City. It’s almost time for the Talulot Festival once again.

The Military Ordinariate of the Philippines (MOP) and Magnificat Ventures Corporation (MVC), in partnership with the City of Pasay, Barangay Villamor, Resorts World Manila and the Newport City Estate Administration will bring you this vibrant festival of music, dance and wholesome entertainment.

Talulot, which started in 2007, is a celebration of the feast day of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, also known as God’s Little Flower. It is named after the Filipino word for petal, as devotees of the Saint believe that she sends a flower/s as a sign of granted prayer. Close to 3,000 people attend the Mass and festivities every year.

This year, the festival will begin with a solemn mass and candlelight procession at the Shrine on October 6, 2012 at 6:00 pm. Devotees will be invited to walk along a candlelit path from the Shrine and within Newport City while reciting the holy rosary and the novena to St. Thérèse. This prayerful event is inspired by the evening Marian Procession in Lourdes, France.

The culmination of this year’s celebration will be on October 7, 2012 at 8:00 am, with the Talulot Stational Mass, followed by the annual street dancing competition. This event will feature around 10 contingents of dancers and musicians from all over the Greater Manila Area wearing colorful costumes and providing a visual and musical spectacle to be enjoyed by the whole family.

Victoria Ungco of the Talulot 2012 Organizing Committee says "We came out with this festival to involve the community, especially the youth. We want to show them that being a devotee of St. Thérèse is not just for the old or super religious. For us, this is also a creative way of telling people that the Shrine is here and that it is for St. Thérèse."

Photographers and photography enthusiasts are also invited to join the Talulot 2012 Photography contest.
