Sale/Bazaars

5th 10A Alabama Arts and Crafts Fair

It started with a small group of artists and crafters wanting to share their work with likeminded people and hopefully sell some of their works.

A lot were first time sellers, never even having shown their work to others before that weekend. When some of the more experienced sellers came in to set up , they had their doubts that there would even be anybody coming to this art fair. The venue is tucked away in a small street in New Manila, no signage aside from a handpainted 10A Alabama illustration on the white gate. No booths, no tents, just set up in the house, or the garage, or at the garden under the big mango tree. By the end of that first weekend though, everybody was high from meeting so many people sharing the same interest, the appreciation of the guests for what they were creating, and the general easy vibe of the compound.

The 10A Alabama Arts and Crafts Fair has since evolved into a community of artists and crafters, with triple the number of participants, and constantly adding new concepts and activities to the now monthly event.

What makes it such a different and enjoyable experience is the fact that all the items are handmade, the people who man the booths are the ones who make the items too, so buyers can interact with the artists. The venue is a quaint old house with a big garden and sellers can set up anywhere. They can lay out a blanket in the garden , set up on the bed in the house, or just hang their work on a clothesline.

Some things to expect for this 5th 10A Alabama Arts and Crafts fair would be a book swap and an interactive performance by Rock Balancing Philippines. There will also be an exhibit and sale of art mirrors by some of the artists in collaboration with Resurrection Furniture and Found Objects Gallery. Proceeds of the sale of the mirrors will go to an art workshop series for the children in the depressed area near Alabama.
