OPINOYON: The Formation of Public Opinion on the 2010 Elections

The students of Communication Research 165, 1st semester ’09, cordially invite you to the presentation of the 12th Department Extension Research Project (DERP) entitled “OPINOYON: The Formation of Public Opinion on the 2010 Elections”.

This semester the DERP seeks to answer the questions: What are Filipino voters’ political opinions on the upcoming 2010 elections’ and How is the formation of these opinions influenced by media and social groups’ The study determined how the two giant movers- media and government- have influenced political opinions. The influence of a candidate’s media presence to the preferences of the Filipino voters was also analyzed. It identified the perceptions of voters on what issues the government should address and how voters perceive the credibility and efficiency of the government. The study showed how Filipino voters trust the media in terms of credibility, presentation of important issues and favoring of candidates. The researchers have also identified Filipino voters’ top choice candidate for 2010 presidency.
