[POSTPONED] Art In The Park 2020
About the Event
Art in the Park, the country’s most anticipated affordable art fair, will once again gather art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups for its 14th edition on March 15, Sunday, at the Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati City, from 10am to 10pm.
A fundraising event, Art in the Park donates a portion of all sales to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines in support of their projects and programs for the National Museum of the Philippines and its network. Entrance to the fair is free of charge.
56 exhibitors representing galleries, art collectives, independent art spaces, and student groups will once again showcase a wide range of artworks that will surely appeal to a broad array of tastes and styles. Prices of artworks are capped at P50,000 with many art lovers scoring coveted pieces for even far less.
As in years past, the organizers handpicked several artists for special exhibits at the fair.
This year, Richard Quebral’s colorful artwork, laced with humor and whimsy, will grace Art in the Park’s postcards and prints. His works will also be available at the MFPI booth.
Dex Fernandez, on the other hand, through his alter ego Garapata will install a Garapata Hatchery, where visitors (who are willing to get ‘infested’) can participate in his art-making process and take home some Garapata merchandise. “You can bring with you this quirky, transforming, expressive, omnipresent personality if you’re willing to be infested,” says Fernandez. “Just bring a shirt, a tote bag or any material that has a flat surface for Garapata to latch on.”
Artist Jackie Lozano will also demonstrate her method of portraiture live to visitors, who are welcome to engage her in conversation about art.
For those wanting to grab a bite, or even linger over cocktails, a selection of food and drinks will be available, giving fairgoers the chance to partake of their old, reliable favorites or try new fare. As this year’s featured cuisine, Mantra Bistro joins the inviting line-up of concessionaires, offering a pick of its authentic and flavorful Indian dishes.
The relaxed and lively vibe of Art in the Park, underscored by the soulful playing of a jazz trio, will continue on into the evening when Hoochie Coochie Mikkie straps on his steel guitar as the fair’s special performer.
Art in the Park is organized by Philippine Art Events, Inc. for the benefit of the Museum Foundation of The Philippines, with support from Brgy. Bel-Air, MACEA, Bank of The Philippine Islands, and Globe Platinum. Wooden panels courtesy of Art Edge.
