OperaJuan is an independent vocal ensemble which aims to further promote local and foreign classical music and musical theater to the Filipino audience. OperaJuan seeks to create a platform for emerging young and brilliant Filipino artists to showcase their talents. OperaJuan aims to serve innovative productions that give a fresh take on conventional musical performances.
For its third year of providing local audiences quality classical music and musical theater performances, OperaJuan proudly presents "BASICALLY BERNSTEIN/STRICTLY SONDHEIM", an exciting tribute to two great masters of music theater: Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.
Known for their legendary contributions to music and the theater, both Bernstein and Sondheim conceived some of the most gorgeous and thought-provoking musical pieces ever composed. Their exquisite albeit challenging bodies of work has left audiences and artists alike bawling both for its sheer beauty and its incredible complexity. Similarly, critics and scholars have branded Bernstein's and Sondheim's works as outstanding yet highly difficult pieces to perform. In this special 2-in-1 show, featured are popular and rarely performed vocal selections from the music legends' immortal works namely Candide, Mass, Peter Pan, Sweeney Todd, Follies, Company, Sunday in the Park with George, Passion, and more!
Performing the extravagant music of Bernstein and Sondheim is an impressive ensemble of exceptional young talents from the fields of opera, musical theater, and choral music: Aubrey Marie Buenvenida, Nicka Karla Caliwag, Allison Rose Cervantes, Renz Nathaniel Cruz, Nerissa De Juan, Michael Del Rosario, Eden Lorrice Dumlao, Shanna Loise Garcia, Cris Go, Jeric Paul Lim, Aindrielle Madelo, Richard Moreno, Phi Palmos, and John Lemuel Salvedia.
Heading the team is OperaJuan's Founding President and Artistic Director, Renz Nathaniel Cruz and co- director Phi Palmos, with musical direction by Obel Alalong, Aindrielle Madelo as production manager, Jeric Paul Lim as stage manager, and Paolo Villavicencio as the show's official graphic artist.
This one night only event will be on January 11, 2020, Saturday, 6PM, at the Manila Pianos, Ronac Lifestyle Center, Paseo de Magallanes, Makati City.
