CCP Shows and Events This February: ‘Batang Mujahideen’, and More!

Check out the shows and events at the Cultural Center of the Philippines this February 2020, including the Pasinaya Open House Festival and the productions of 'Itim Asu', 'Batang Mujahideen', and 'Senadala at Persyanus'!

1. L'Amour An Evening of Love Songs

Welcome this year's season of hearts with L'Amour An Evening of Love Songs. Soprano Mheco Manlangit performs for her first solo concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, which promises to give our hearts a tug at the start of February.

2. Manila Symphony Orchestra's Concerto De Aranjuez and Shostakovich

In this season-ender, Spanish guitar virtuoso Jacob Cordover will perform the most popular concerto for the guitar, Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concerto de Aranjuez” with the Manila Symphonic Orchestra under the principal guest conductor Marlon Chen. The MSO will also be performing Symphony No. 5 by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich to officially close the night.

3. Pasinaya 16: Palihan at Palabas – The CCP Open House Festival

One of the Cultural Center of the Philippines' staples, the Pasinaya is returning this 2020 for its 16th year. Participants can enjoy more than 200 shows, exhibits, and workshops in this three-day multi-arts festival which is also a celebration for the February Arts Month. There would also be free museum tours, outdoor performances, children's activity zones, film screenings, food booths, and parades making the festival a very much-awaited event every year.

4. 37th PPO Concert Season: "Gold: Classical Music Treasures"ā€‹

Spend your Valentine's Day with the exceptional music from the Philippine Philharmoni Orchestra under the baton of guest conductor Gerard Salonga. They will be serenading the audiences with Lucio San Pedro's Ang Buwan sa Kabundukan, Franz Schubert's Erlkőnig, Manuel De Falla's Siete Canciones Populares Españolas and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony no.6, op. 74, B minor ("Pathetique"). Also gracing the stage as soloist is Soprano Andion Fernandez.

5. Ballet Philippines 50th Season: Itim Asu & Other Dancers
Date: February 21, 8PM; February 2 and 3, 2PM & 7PM
Venue: Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater)

The 1970 modern classic, Itim Asu, returns to the CCP Main Theater this February. Based on three ritual scenes from Virgina Moreno's award-winning drama The Onyx Wolf, Itim Asu will be performed by Ballet Philippines this February, showcasing diverse and dynamic dancing styles for the production.

6. Komedya ng Don Galo's Senadala at Persyanus: Ang Bagong Mukha ng Moro-Moro
Date: February 21, 10AM & 3PM
Venue: Tanghalang Huseng Batute (CCP Studio Theater)ā€‹

This theatrical production from Komedya ng Don Galo is about the conflict of religion, leadership, and power between the mythical kingdoms of Senadala and Persyanus, which will find its resolution through love and peace. Sounds familiar? This is because Senadala at Persyanus is the new face of Moro Moro in the Philippines. Part of the cast are Czarina Mendiola, Shaira Ortiz, Klyne Yaba, MJ Calderon, Loi Macatuggal, Paul Alfonso and KC Ortiz.

7. Tanghalang Pilipino's Batang Mujahideen
Date: February 21 to March 8 | Friday 8PM; Saturday 3PM & 8PM; Sunday 3PM
Venue: Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater)

This production of Tanghalang Pilipino tells of the promising tale of children soldiers in Mindanao, who are caught in between the conflict of Muslims and Christians. Tickets are available through KTX, Ticket2Me, and TicketWorld.
