The first tribal love-rock musical to ever hit Broadway is finally coming to the Philippine stage! Hair, which will be running from November 17 to December 17 at the OnStage Theater in Greenbelt 1, Makati, is Repertory Philippines' grand year-end musical for 2017.

Hair the Musical

Hair will be taking its audience back to 1960s New York – the time when hippies began to form tribes as a form of protest against the Vietnam War. It follows a native Oklahoma farm boy named Claude, who meets a tribe of Central Park hippies who inspires him to go against the war, his parents, and society; to assert love, peace, and freedom, instead.

The musical depicts what it was like to live in the 60s. It explores the bohemian underground, the sexual revolution, and the violent anti-war movement back then. And despite it being a period piece, it remains to be an iconic theater production that's still as relevant today as it was when it was first staged.

Hair REP

REP's upcoming staging of the musical will feature Markki Stroem who alternates with Topper Fabregas as Claude, George Schulze as Berger, Caisa Borromeo as Sheila, and a stellar cast of young performance. Chris Millado will be directing the production, with Ejay Yatco as musical director and PJ Rebullida as choreographer.

Here's a little sneak peek on the 2009 Broadway revival of the musical to get you excited for Hair:

The production will also be featuring the book and lyrics of Gerome Ragni and James Rado, with music by Galt McDermot, including hits like Let the Sun Shine In, Aquarius, and Good Morning Starshine. The original production won the 1969 Grammy Award for Best Score from An Original Cast Show Album, while its 2009 Broadway revival earned the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
