Meet Maria and the Von Trapp Kids in the Upcoming Manila Production of ‘The Sound of Music’!

Six of the seven von Trapp kids are Filipinos!

After three grueling rounds of auditions, the producers of The Sound of Music are proud to announce that 18 of the Philippines’ most talented young actors and actresses have been chosen to play the roles of the young von Trapp children in the forthcoming international production of The Sound of Music.

The production will be running from September 27 to October 15 at The Theatre at Solaire.

Over 400 children from all over the Philippines came to audition for the coveted roles of six of the seven von Trapp brood – the small and cute Gretl, the brothers Friedrich and Kurt, as well as their sisters Marta, Brigita, and Louisa. Three children have been chosen to alternate each character throughout the Manila season. Jonny Bowles, Children’s Director, flew in from London to oversee all three days of the auditions, during which the youngsters were put through a series of acting, singing, and dancing tests. The best of the best were chosen, aged from 6 to 14, and will start rehearsals shortly.

Here are 6 of the Von Trapp children we can't wait to see during its limited 3-week run in Manila:

The kids will be playing alongside South African actress Carmen Pretorius who, before landing the role of Maria Von Trapp, starred as Liezl in the same production, Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia, Gabriella Montez in High School Musical Live Onstage, and more.

Sound of Music tells the uplifting true story of Maria, the fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by reintroducing them to music, culminating in the family's escape across the Austrian mountains as tensions rise prior to the outbreak of World War II.

The musical features songs like like My Favorite Things. Edelweiss, Do-Re-Mi, and Sixteen Going On Seventeen which is written and composed by the well-loved Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
