7 Reasons Why Halloween is the Best Time to Visit Ocean Park Hong Kong

You know, aside from the fact that Asia’s biggest Halloween celebration is set to happen there.

Survey says that visiting theme parks (not shopping) is the number one reason of Filipino tourists for travelling to Hong Kong. And if we’re going to take the park exec’s claim that “you’ve never been to Hong Kong unless you’ve been to Ocean Park” as truth, then chances are you’ve visited the city’s first ever theme park at some point in your life.

But this Halloween, Ocean Park Hong Kong re-invites both long-time patrons and park newbies to experience Asia’s biggest Halloween celebration. This year’s scare-fest, which will run from October 2 to October 31, 2014, is the park’s biggest Halloween event to date.

Here are top 7 reasons why Halloween 2014 is the best time to try (or revisit) Ocean Park Hong Kong.

1. H14 – The Scariest Haunted House in Hong Kong (Thrill Mountain, 11am to 11pm)

H14, presented by Modern Education, is a unique haunted house experience customized based on each guest’s deepest fears. It’s basically a live escape room game; the difference is you’re trapped in a house filled with things that scare you the most.

Because of the promise of extreme fear, only person 16 years old and above are allowed to participate. Park guests cannot just walk in H14. Online registration in Ocean Park’s website, in which the guests will disclose their phobia, is required prior to entering the madhouse.

2. Rigor Mortis Live (Cable Car Plaza, 1pm to 11pm)

Rigor Mortis LIVE is another walk through attraction that takes guests to the dilapidated public estate scenes in Hong Kong’s award-winning horror movie Rigor Mortis.

3. Phantom Studios and Horror Wood Studios

In daytime, guests can visit Waterfront Plaza to star in a sci-fi horror movie. At night, it transforms into Horror Wood Studios where spine-tingling movie scenes will be played.

4. Chinese Mad-icine Hall (Near the Abyss, 1pm to 11pm)

This hall is home to a mad doctor obsessed with finding the elixir of youth. Park guests are to escape him by going through a mortuary maze filled with cadavers and human organs.

5. Doraemon Halloween Party (Whiskers Harbour Playground, 11 am to 11 pm)

The friendly alien is not one bit scary but he sure can throw a fun Halloween themed party. Doraemon’s kingdom, the first in Asia, features a hall filled with Doraemon’s zaniest inventions.

6. Shark Mystique

The movie Jaws made many a beach-goer paranoid when it was first shown on theaters. At the park’s newly launched Shark Mystique, one of Southeast Asia’s largest shark exhibits, guests can revel at the fearsome sharp-toothed creatures of the sea, without worrying about their safety.

7. Thrill Mountain’s Extreme Rides

Thrill Mountain is home to Hair Raiser– Hong Kong’s first and only floorless roller coaster that travels 88 kilometres an hour (making it the fastest in all of HK!). In this ride, guests will experience an acceleration of 4.0G with their feet dangling in the air.

The Flash, a pendulum-style mechanical ride, boasts a maximum swinging height of 22 meters, a G-force of 3.9G and a top speed of 60km/hour. In this ride, guests can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire Ocean Park and surroundings at an upside down orientation.

Apart from the scary, hair-raising Halloween attractions, Ocean Park also entertains guests through a variety of educational exhibits and interactive animal encounters. Amazing Asian Animals is home to rare species such as the giant panda, red panda, Chinese giant salamander, Asian small-clawed otter and the Chinese alligator. Sea Jelly Spectacular is Asia’s first stand-alone sea jelly exhibit with over 1,000 sea   jellies.

During its regular months, Ocean Park, which has over 80 attractions and rides spread out in more than 91.5 hectares of land, has been described as impossible to tackle in one day. With the additional parties and thrilling attractions, this Halloween season is really the best time for long-time patrons and even park newbies to revisit Ocean Park.
