Instagram unveils ‘Stories,’ a feature that’s very similar to Snapchat

The Facebook-owned photography app, Instagram, unveiled a new feature called Instagram Stories — pretty much like what Snapchat is known for.

With the launch of Stories on Instagram, users can post content like photos which you can doodle on, stickers and filters that disappear after 24 hours. The said images could be seen by the app's 300 million daily active users as opposed to Snapchat's 150 million.

Viewing someone's story on Instagram is almost quite similar to Snapchat's — just tap on the profile photos, tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person's story. If you want to leave a comment, just tap and send a private message which will appear on the user's Instagram Direct. In contrast to regular posts, there are no likes or public comments.

Your story is the same with the privacy settings of your account; if your account is on private, your story will only be viewed by your followers. In addition, you can also hide your story to anyone you don't want to see it even if they follow you. Swipe up to check who has viewed each photo and video. You can even feature a photo or video by posting it on your profile.

Instagram Stories has rolled out to some users as of writing and will be released globally for iOS and Android in the next few weeks. Watch how Instagram Stories work in the video below:
