A world without language barriers with Pilot, the first ever language-translating earpiece

A New York City-based startup company, Waverly Labs, has developed an electronic device which translates conversations between two people speaking to each other in different languages in close-to-real time translation.

The earpiece is called Pilot which uses translation technology. It perfectly fits into the ear and has a built-in app which toggles between languages. The language-translating earpiece works in pairs which means you wear one piece and the other person wears the other. Your conversation will then be translated almost in an instant to the other wearer's language which they'll hear in the earpiece.

According to the company, all you'll need are the earpieces and a smartphone app. While they haven't fully explained how it works, the earpieces will probably pick up the wearer's voices, send it to the app through Bluetooth and result as a translated one in the other wearer's ear.

Pilot will be available in three colors — red, black and white — and comes with an extra earpiece (one for you and a friend), one charger and an app.

Founder Andrew Ochoa explained he got the idea after meeting a French girl. "A life untethered; free of language barriers," says Ochoa in the video below.

The company says its planning to initially release European based languages followed by other world languages including East Asian, Hindi, Semitic and Slavic.

They've launched a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to make Pilot available with a retail price of $299, with access to select languages. Additional languages will be available for download.
