LinkedIn has a new app, Lookup, lets you easily message your coworkers

Its objective is to allow people to easily find information and message with their coworkers.

LinkedIn has released a new free iOS app called Lookup. Its objective is to allow people to easily find information and message with their coworkers.

The team behind Lookup is led by Pulse founder, Ankit Gupta, who says the app was brought about when they found out that people who use LinkedIn are those who want to look up information about their coworkers.

"In response, people are looking elsewhere to learn about their coworkers. 46 percent say they look up coworkers on LinkedIn," Gupta said in a blog post. "That’s because it’s easier to find coworkers on LinkedIn, and the professional info people add to their profiles is more comprehensive and up-to-date than lots of companies’ intranets."

After you've found the person you're looking for, you can view all his relevant work info that you would usually find on LinkedIn, like the title, work experience, education, skills, e-mail address and more.

Gupta spoke with Business Insider and said "what we want to do is a very small but important thing — we want to help you find and learn about each other because we believe that will make you more productive."

The app is only available for iOS for now but they are currently working on an Android app. Moreover, Lookup is already available on mobile web and desktop.
