Facebook Opens Internet.org to Developers

Developers who wish to join are to follow three simple principles which are designed to align all participants' incentives and bring more people online.

Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook opens internet.org to third-party developers today. If you haven't heard yet, Internet.org was launched in 2013 with the hopes of making the internet available to everyone in the world. Although the scope is too large, internet.org's partners think it is possible since they believe in the power of a connected world.

The three major opportunity areas are as follows: affordability, efficiency and business models. Zuckerberg believes it is just right that everyone has access to the internet as it is a vital part in the everyday life; especially to those of the majority who have no access to basic internet services.

Although this sounds too good of a deal, internet.org does not support high-bandwidth sites which means no photos and videos are allowed on internet.org. He even emphasizes that Facebook does not even have ads on it.

As stated on their announcements, they are building a platform and anyone who meets their guidelines are free to participate. Developers who wish to join are to follow three simple principles which are designed to align all participants' incentives and bring more people online. They think the criterias will help connect more people faster, and add even greater value to people’s lives.

Earlier today, Zuckerberg posted a video narrating how it is just right to provide these free services to people. Watch below:
