7 Things You Need to Stop Doing on Social Media

We know that you're free to do whatever you want on your social media profile, but these 7 annoying habits just need to stop.

The rise of social media has opened up several new ways to communicate and express ourselves. And while there's no denying of its usefulness, it has also brought out the worst in us. From cyberbullying to downright narcissism, social media has unmasked an uglier version of its users for everyone to see.

We know that you're free to do whatever you want on your social media profile, but these 7 annoying habits just need to stop.

  1. Oversharing

Blow-by-blow updates of your every mundane move. “Now eating chips!” Uhmmm…those chips must be THAT extraordinary to deserve a shoutout. News flash: no one cares. So unless you're some superstar whose fans are always eager to know your whereabouts, keep the unnecessary live updates of your every move to yourself (or significant other if you're that type of couple).

  1. Sharing fake “news” articles

For the love of humanity, stop proliferating those fake “news” articles. Read the article first and check the source before reposting it with an enraged “WHAT! I can't believe this! Blah blah blah” comment. Make sure that what you're sharing isn't from a satirical website before eliciting any form of overreaction. You're just embarrassing yourself.

  1. Reposting spam/chain letters

We're no longer in grade school. Stop spamming everyone's news feed with those chain letters! “If you've read this and don't pass it on to 10 people, something bad will happen to you.”, “Pass this to 10 people and your wish will come true.” The only thing that you'll get when you repost those chain letters is this: annoyance from your friends.

  1. Posting selfies with deep and unrelated quotes as caption

Do you really think your face evokes THAT kind of inspiration? Just stop.

  1. Humble bragging

Stop masking your boastfulness under the guise of self-deprecation. We don't mind if you want to show off your hot new body or the awesome view from your vacation, just don't try to downplay it with false humility. “Ugh! Can't fit all my stuff in my luggage! This is what I get for shopping too much. #hatemylife” Awww…poor you for having the time and resources to go on a vacation and shopping spree. “Posts a flawless picture with the caption: Just woke up” We get it. You look radiant 24/7.

  1. Abusing hashtags

Posting a photo with every possible hashtag. #why #are #you #doing #that #soannoying

  1. Liking your own posts

Honey, it just looks pathetic.
