8 iOS 8 features you probably didn’t know about

Check out these lesser-known cool new iOS 8 features that we're excited about!

Smarter keyboard, interactive notifications, smarter spotlight search – everything is smarter!

Earlier this week, Apple unveiled an arsenal of awesome new features for iOS 8 that are aimed to make the user experience better and more seamless. You've probably heard of the widely applauded interactive notifications – yes thankfully, like your rival Android users, you can now respond to a text or email without leaving the app you're in. Other highlighted new features are the health app, new messaging app (that now closely resembles WhatsApp), and seamless connection between iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite devices.

But there are a number of features that weren't given much screen time. Here are 8 cool new iOS 8 features that we're excited about:

  1. Time-lapse video

iOS 8 brings a new mode to the camera app. Capture beautiful sunrise and sunset by swiping to select the Time-lapse video mode in the camera app. Just tap the record button and your phone will snap photos at dynamically selected intervals.

  2. Panorama photos in iPad

The folks at Cupertino have finally accepted that a lot of people use their iPads to take photos. Although it's still undeniably annoying during concerts (your iPad is blocking our view for crying out loud!), iPad users will be delighted that Apple is now bringing the Panorama mode to the iPad's camera app.

  3. Breakdown of battery usage by app

Want to know which app is sucking your battery life? Apple will now tell you which apps are sucking the life out of your iOS device.

  1. Auto night mode for iBooks

Nocturnal bookworms, rejoice! Aside from being pre-installed on iOS 8 devices, iBooks will now come with an auto night mode which will allow users to read better in low-light.

  2. Siri x Shazam

Siri will soon be able to recognize what song is playing thanks to its Shazam integration. It will even present you a “buy” button in case you haven't purchased it yet from iTunes.

  3. Set archive period for messages

Apple is implementing a new feature that will allow you to set how long you want to save your messages.

  4. Support for Wi-Fi calling

There is no stopping Apple from its goal to obliterate messaging apps. Aside from 'mimicking' common WhatsApp/Viber features, Apple will now allow you to make calls using Wi-Fi in God-forsaken areas with weak cellular signal.

  5. FaceTime call waiting

If you're an avid FaceTime user, you'll be delighted to know that iOS8 now supports call waiting for FaceTime.
