4 ways to automatically backup your smartphone photos

Keep those precious snapshots safe with these photo backup tools!

Have you been taking more photos on your smartphone (thus, slowly putting your digital camera to rest)? Then like the rest of us, you probably have too much photos on your camera roll/gallery. To ensure that your photos are immortalized and can still be accessed even when you lose your phone *crosses fingers*, here are 4 ways to automatically backup your smartphone photos.

1. Dropbox (FREE)
iOS | Android

Install the Dropbox app on your smartphone and turn on the 'Camera Upload' function. This allows Dropbox to automatically back up your photos saved on your Camera Roll or Gallery. If you've reached your storage limit, you can always invite friends to earn more storage space.

Don't have a Dropbox account yet? Sign up for a free account and get 2GB storage space.

2. Google+ (FREE)
iOS | Android

Google+'s Auto Backup feature is a good reason to join Google's social networking platform. Aside from automatically saving your photos on the cloud, Google+ has a couple of cool features like Auto Enhance that allows you to edit your photos (remove red eye, skin softening, tonal distribution, noise reduction). It also has an Auto Awesome feature which turns your photos into animated GIFs and adds snow to your photos, among others.

Google+ offers free 15GB storage. Backed up photos are automatically private unless you choose to share them.

Don't want to join Google+? Auto Backup feature is also available on Google Drive (iOS / Android) or if you have an Android phone, just turn on the Auto Backup feature on Google Photos.

3. iCloud (FREE)
iOS

Got an iPhone? Back up your precious Camera Roll photos by turning on 'Photos' on the iCloud settings.

iCloud gives free 5GB of storage to all its users.

4. Flickr (FREE)
iOS | Android

The most generous of them all, Flickr gives 1TB (that's enough space for more than 500,000 photos!) of free storage to all its users. Turn on the app's Auto Sync function to automatically save all your smartphone photos in the cloud. If you want to keep your synced photos private, just set the Default Privacy to 'Private (Only you)'.
