Google ushers in April Fool’s Day 2014 with a slew of hilarious pranks

Become the next Pokémon master using Google Maps, express yourself more clearly with emojis on Chrome, get photobombed by David Hasselhoff on your Google+ photos!

Google Maps: Pokémon Challenge

Google Maps has been taken over by Pokémons and it's got a new job opening to help solve this problem. Do you have what it takes to become Google's ultimate Pokémon Master?

In a video posted on YouTube, Brian McClendon, Vice President – Google Maps said that they've prepared “the most rigorous test known to man” in order to find the world's best Pokémon Master.

So how does it work? First, make sure that you have the latest version of Google Maps on your iOS or Android device. Open the app and tap the search bar and click “Press start.”

From there, you'll be able to see a number of Pokémon characters scattered all over the map. To catch it, simply tap the Pokémon character. You need to scour the entire globe to find all Pokémons. Keep track of all your captured Pokémons using the Pokédex.

Deadline to catch all Pokémons is on April 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. PDT. Those who'll be able to collect all Pokémons will be invited to the Googleplex for a final round. The winner will be hired as Pokémon Master and will start his/her job on September 1, 2014. (No, there's no actual job waiting for you. Duh!)

Google Chrome for Android and iOS: Emojify the Web

“Can a word smile? Can it rolls its eyes or say 'sorry not sorry'?” – these are the thought-provoking words said by Hannah Beecher, PhD, Linguistic Pragmatics in a YouTube video posted by the Google Chrome team.

Google Chrome is now adding Google Translate support for Emoji on its iOS and Android app. Emily Mee, Head of Market Research, said “If somebody were just able to explicitly say, 'Hey I'm flirting with you' or 'Hey, I'm mocking you', that would just make my life a lot more efficient.”

According to Ms. Lee, “This is the next phase of linguistic evolution and we want to provide this to all of our users.”

With the click of a button, Chrome's translation algorithm interprets the context and tone of words and distills them down into clear, articulate, meaningful symbols.

And Chrome is not stopping at emojifying the entire Internet, they're also aiming to emojify URLs, e-commerce, medical journals, legal documents, and subtitles.
