Valentine's Date Ideas

Life is stressful enough as it is; Valentines Day shouldn’t add to it. If you’re still clueless up to now on what to do on February 14, here are some ideas for a memorable date:

1. Watch a music concert.

Apo Hiking Society performs at the Bellevue Hotel, Muntinlupa on February 14. Tickets sell from P2000 up, and includes one round of standard drink (Phone: 771-8181).

For an even more sentimental experience, there’s David Pomeranz at the PICC Plenary Hall on the same date. Tickets range from P800 to P2500 (Call 911-5555 for inquiries). If these prices are a bit too steep, lovebirds in the Queen City of the South can bring their dates to the South Surface Parking Area of Ayala Center Cebu on February 13 to catch Julia Fordham, the Jewel of Pop Jazz. Call the concierge hotline at (032) 231-5342 loc. 324.

2. Dinner at Vieux Chalet

There’s the usual dinner at a hotel, and then there’s dinner at Vieux Chalet.

Head to Antipolo City for fine Swiss cuisine, cold air that’s just perfect for snuggling, and of course, the twinkling lights of Metro Manila below. The special Valentines’ Menu for two costs P2,500 and includes champagne, salmon terring or duck confit, and prawn ala Judith, roasted lamb with cashew and herb crust, or baked chicken fillet with artichoke, Swiss cheese and smoked bacon. This restaurant was actually once a house, so the place is quite small and reservations are a must. Call 697-0396 for directions.

3. Poetic Valentines

If you can spend lunchtime together, pack a picnic lunch and buy a poetry book. Read to each other the works of literary giants like Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Pablo Neruda. If you’re feeling particularly creative, whisper your own sweet verses to your honey.

4. DVD night

Rent a DVD of the first film you saw together at the cinema to bring back those memories. Or choose from classics such as Casablanca, and Gone with the Wind, or newer flicks like Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping.

5. Couples Massage

What better way to unwind than with your loved one? Book a couples massage at The Spa, which starts at P2,200 for the 60-minute session (Log on to www.thespa.com.ph to make reservations).

Neo Day Spa (815-8233) also offers the Aroma Mosaic massage for two- it starts with a salt scrub then ends with a 75-minute massage (P2500, with a gift pack from Decleor). If you have the time, drive up to Nurture Spa, Tagaytay for their Magkasintahan package (Magsing-irog massage for two plus facial). Although it’s a bit pricey at P7170, it comes with meals and snacks (www.nurture.com.ph). Better yet, why not spend the evening learning massage therapy techniques you can easily perform at home? A Couples Massage DVD can be ordered online (visit www.atpeacemedia.com/pages/FFCouplesMassage.html).

5. Yacht Cruise

Sail off into the night with a cruise along Manila Bay. You can choose either the sunset cruise (4-7:30 pm) or the evening crusie (8-11:30 pm). P3200 per couple already includes dinner. Call Paul at 09178456738 / 285-7485 or Val at 09223614544 / 5236648.

Finally, if you’re still clueless on what to do on Valentine’s Day, don’t despair. A simple, quiet meal can be just as exciting if you’re with your loved one. After all, at the end of the day, it’s who you’re with that counts. Happy Hearts Day!
