Yahoo releases a video-messaging app, Livetext

Now, you don't need any emojis.

Now, you don't need any emojis.

Yahoo has announced a new app, Livetext, where users can chat with friends by sharing video and text. However, the videos don't have sound.

Using the app is pretty simple. You download it, add your friends and tap to start a chat with them. You then see their feed and they see yours, minus the audio. Instead of the usual video-calling apps which allows you to talk, you just type messages at the bottom of the screen.

Moreover, if your friend wants to Livetext and you're currently not available to join, you will still receive each other's messages without the video.

The app has no time limit for texts and the conversations can't be saved or embedded by users. Messages are sent like regular texts when someone isn't watching live on the other end and the content is automatically deleted when you exit the app.

Livetext can be as addictive as Snapchat or any other messaging app, but for that to happen, people have to actually download it. And based from experience, a chatting app is not fun if you don't have friends who use it as well.

The app is already available in Hong Kong, Ireland and Taiwan and will roll out today on iOS and Android in the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany.
