After a six-year album drought, Color It Red is on the limelight once again with the release of their latest album which is a self-titled one. The album “Color It Red” is the group’s fourth offering and their second under Alpha Music. “We were very excited to work with Alpha again. We had a good working relationship before which produced a very successful album,” revealed Barbi Cristi, Color It Red’s cofounder and rhythm guitarist.
The album contains 12 all original, positive driven tracks equally parted into English and Tagalog. It also showcases the band member’s maturity as each of them displayed their songwriting skills for this album. “In terms of music, this album features the fusion of all of our musical influences as manifested in the compositions each one of us have contributed. Take for example our carrier track which is entitled Dalawa,” said Barbi Cristi. The song “Dalawa” is written by bassist Bopip Paraguya. It is an upbeat pop rock love song and is now getting generous amount of airplay from top FM stations nationwide.
The album “Color It Red” also features 2 cuts--“From the Other Side of the Sea” and “Sweet Freedom,” which were both previously released from “Balangiga 1901,” a compilation album concerning the massacre suffered by a group of Filipinos during the Fil-Am war period.
Color It Red's current line-up is composed of original members Barbi Cristi and Cookie Chua (vocals) plus Bopip Paraguya on bass, Jayvee Torres on drums, Sam Baja on keyboards and Ariel Policarpio on lead guitar. The group was formed sometime in September 1989 by Cookie Chua, Barbi Cristi and Maricar Florenda after watching the movie “Satisfaction,” a teen flick about an all-girl band and the struggle they went through to get their act together.
The band which got their name from a crossword puzzle clue has been around for almost 15 years, longer than many of the current music players we have today. Through the years, Color It Red has led a tough yet fulfilling life, playing in clubs and concerts. “We’re very glad that the local band scene is alive once again and we feel that now is the right time to release a new album, Barbi assessed.
Other notable tracks included in the album (now available in CD format) are “Ilog ng Pagsinta,” “Stay,” “Ang Mundo ay Bilog,” “Kung Ikaw Na Nga,” “Ikaw at Ako,” “Speak to Me,” “You,” “Panalo” and “If You Loved Only Me.”
