When I first watched it  over 2 years ago (on September 21, 2021), I did not quite appreciate it and rated it only 4 out of 5 stars.  After re-watching it yesterday (in preparation for the much praised Part 2), I now rate it 5 out of 5 stars!  Reading its synopsis in both imdb & wikipedia before re-watching it, made me understand it more & appreciate it more.  Some notes: * "Dreams are messages from the deep." * "A great man doesn't seek to lead.  He's called to it, and he answers." * Fear is the mind killer.  * "Lisan al gaib" is the Fremen term for an off-world prophet or messiah. It comes from the Arabic, meaning "the tongue of the unseen" or "the voice from the outer world".  * Kwisatz Haderach means "the one who can be many places at once" or "the shortening of the way" in the fictional language of Chakobsa. It refers to a special being who can access the genetic memories of all his ancestors, male and female, and see the future with prescience.  * There's a cool flying machine that's like a helicopter (called ornithopters) that flaps 8 wings like dragonflies.

Hands down, my favorite film of the year. Pros are that the effects, sound, visuals, direction, and acting are near perfect. The main con for the film is that it's only 2/3 of the book, so it ends as abruptly as Fellowship of the Ring 20 years ago. Aside from that, it is a perfect adaptation.
