The Weekend Affair

Cebu Living launches the year’s first issue with heaps of crave-worthy comfort food and a night of relaxing music.

Launching its first issue of the year, the team behind Cebu Living magazine and 32 Sanson set up a post-Valentines-themed food fair at 32 Sanson, Rockwell, Lahug last Feb. 20. Friends, couples, and families gathered to revel in good music and sumptuous fare ranging from melted chocolate to everyone’s favorite lechon. A horde of around 1000 dropped by to unwind – topping the number of guests from last November’s Weekend Sunset.

Upon entering, attendees were greeted with a fountain of flowing chocolate where they dipped their favorite treats. Twelve fortunate Instagrammers were even treated 500-peso worth of gift certificates from food concessionaires. Every hungry diner chose from a wide array of comfort food – notable among which are Grub Street’s beef stroganoff, Hans Rice Burgers’ bulgogi, spicy pork, and spicy tuna-filled burgers, chili and chorizo hotdogs from Craft Dawgs, grilled goods from My Lunch Box, Poké Nachos, bone marrow and bread from Boy and the Girl by Carnivore Cebu, and of course, the sought-after Tatang’s Lechon.

For the more conscientious diners, there were healthier alternatives such as organic smoothies and salads from Kairos by the Lazy Chef and also Tierra Organia Corporation’s black rice, wild honey, and other organic goods that diners could take home. A portion of all the event’s proceeds, moreover, would go to the Children of the Coast Foundation.

Seats were getting filled even before sundown. Some visitors, with their beers from The Social or their shaved ice cream from Sno, took their spots on the picnic mats near the pool, beside swaying red balloons—a sight reminiscent of a community picnic. The Wonggoys, Cebu’s homegrown band of brothers, delivered relaxing tunes, followed by an equally enjoyable number by Vincent Echo. The evening revelry officially concluded at 10 p.m. yet it was duly extended as groups of friends and families continued to savor their time away from the usual grind and casually wallowed in the romantic backyard ambiance.
