Sango The Burger Master

What happens when you cross burgers, the quintessential American food, with something distinctively Japanese like teriyaki? Head over to Sango! The Burger Master to find out.

Just like in a typical fastfood restaurant, you go to the counter, pay, and then wait for your order. At Sango! the delay is bearable as there’s plenty to keep you amused, especially if you’re a fan of all things Japanese. An LCD screen shows Japanese music videos. On the other side of the room is a shelf stacked with Japanese magazines and comics. Or you can watch the cooks efficiently assemble your burger through a glass window beside the counter.

Before you get the chance to get bored, the food arrives rather quickly. Their bestseller, the Master Burger (P88), features a juicy, succulent patty sandwiched between soft buns. It has a special meaty sauce (chili con carne) which tastes well with the thick tomato slice. If you must really have your cheese, opt for the Master Cheese Burger (P103). Other specialties include the Chicken Teriyaki Burger (P80) or the Tonkatsu Burger (P85). For something more filling, the Yakiniku Rice Burger (P88) has tender and flavorful beef, garnished with lettuce. The rice patties are warm and chewy, unlike rice burgers from other fastfood chains. Although messy to eat, try not to use a spoon and a fork as it destroys your “burger” experience.

And what’s a burger joint without fries? Sango’s fries are long and fat, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Dip them in your burger’s tasty sauce instead of the usual ketchup for variation. To wash it all down, order one of their creamy and reasonably-priced shakes. Check out the Vanilla Shake (P40), if you don’t want the Green Tea version (P35). For dessert, top-off your drink with soft ice cream, or simply hop over to Co-op, the Japanese grocery next door for their “isaw”-looking caramel ice cream. After your meal, a waitress goes around handing out origami to complete your Japanese experience.

All in all, Sango! is your best bet if you’re craving for a new gastronomic experience that won’t cost more than two hundred bucks. The service is fast, so you can easily head here for lunch. A word of caution though: you will inevitably smell of food if you stay a tad too long. But if you don’t mind smelling of oil and meat afterwards, this is a clean, no-nonsense, no-frills place for your burger cravings.

Sango! The Burger Master is at the Ground Floor, Creek Side Mall, Amorsolo St. corner Legaspi Village, Makati City (Beside Pharaoh). You can also phone in your orders in advance, or have your food delivered. (Telephone: 830-0391)
