QC hosts ‘Largest Zumba Fitness Outdoor Party’ on Oct. 12

Groove for fun and fitness this coming October 12, as Quezon City not only marks its 75th year, but also aims to make it in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Groove for fun and fitness this coming October 12, as Quezon City not only marks its 75th year, but also aims to make it in the Guinness Book of World Records. QC is inviting everyone to join its biggest Zumba Fitness Outdoor Party on Oct. 12, 4 p.m., at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

As one of the year-long highlights of Quezon City’s 75th Diamond Jubilee celebration, the event aims to beat the standing record of 6,671 people who participated in a Zumba party in Hyderabad, India, on September 15, 2012. The Zumba Fitness Outdoor party aims to bring together 9,000 people to actively participate in at least an hour of non-stop dancing routines.

According to Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, while Zumba fitness is an exercise dance craze that has swept the nation and the world, the QC government aims to elevate it as a fun, exciting, and highly engaging social activity to get “all Filipinos moving and grooving as one, as they aim to make new history for our beloved city.”

While the Zumba party is part of the city’s 75th founding anniversary celebration, it is not exclusive for QC residents. “This is a great opportunity for everyone to show support, commitment and solidarity for one goal. We are calling on participants from all over QC as well as those from other cities to rally with us in this record-breaking endeavor,” Mayor Bautista said.

Teaming up with the city government is the Zumba Instructors Network (ZIN). According to the ZIN instructors, the Zumba event will feature non-stop rhythmic dance routines and will be entirely “easy, fun, safe and appropriately-planned” to fit participants as young as 13 years old. No previous Zumba dancing experience is required; participants just need to follow the routines and the Guinness guidelines (participants are required to dance, to the best of their ability, for 30 continuous minutes).

As part of the preparations, all ZIN members were assigned district leader-coordinators for the city’s six main districts. The district leaders have conducted free pocket Zumba classes every weekends in all QC district chapters throughout September.

For participants from nearby localities, they may pre-register now and sign-in the day of the event to confirm attendance. On-day sign-in will begin prior to 4 p.m. as the Zumba party will start promptly.
