That’s a Wrap: 9 Shawarma Places in Manila for Mouthwatering Middle Eastern Snacks

In honor of the meat-loaded and sauce-filled wraps that served as rewarding post-battle sustenance for our beloved Avengers, we list 9 places in Metro Manila where you can devour shawarma when your cravings go on full superhero mode.

Grilled meat freshly shaved from the spit, topped with vegetables, wrapped in bread and coated with an addicting sauce — a shawarma may be a Middle Eastern street food item, but it's definitely a constant craving in Manila, especially for late night noms.

This street food hails from the Middle East, with its roots tracing back to Turkey–the word çevirme which means 'to turn' is the origin of this snack's name. The delicious magic of shawarma relies on this turning action, rotating the meat (usually chicken or beef) on a spit to slow roast, then shaving it off in smaller strips and pieces to be combined with vegetables, toppings and sauces, then wrapped in bread (usually flatbread or pita). With flavorful marinated meats, the variety of toppings are now endless, as almost anything savory in a wrap can be stuffed with other fun ingredients for a modern Middle Eastern burrito — cheese is a popular topping, and the option for extra garlic sauce and chili sauce always an option.
