A new quick to-go and self-service restaurant has sprouted in Salcedo Village, serving fresh and healthy fare.

Sprout Fresh Convenience aims to offer customers a better choice than fastfood, with their own redefining of 'fast' food: offering very fresh, natural, and healthy food options grab-and-go style for people on the go, making it extra convenient to choose a healthier meal or snack (one excuse less to binge on greasy, deep-fried, overprocessed anything all the time). Think of Sprout as your healthier, hipper, neighborhood convenience store encouraging you to eat clean.
The cozy space (also a mini-restaurant with one side able to seat eight people at the most) is bright and crisp, with a counter in the middle. Open-air refrigerators line up its two walls, shelves stocked with many food options: salads, salad dressings, juices, coconut water, wraps, sandwiches, energy shots; for the sweet tooth, desserts ("a little indulgence never hurts" as they were labeled) and sweet power bars like Oatmeal Mango Crisp (P120), Carrot Cake (P100), Peanut Butter Oatmeal Crisp, and dessert pods in different flavors like Vanilla Panna Cotta, Let's Chia Chia, Coco Pot, and Nature's Candy. More filling meals can be had for there or takeaway with meals like Laing Rice Bowl and Quinoa Miso Salmon Rice Bowl.
It was difficult to pick what to grab from the fridge to bring home — there were many things to to choose from! — and the labels on every product both informative and entertaining. For someone who has less time checking every shelf and seeing what they want to purchase, by the counter is a touch screen menu, complete with the product's ingredients and macronutrient count (perfect for calorie or carb counters). They also carry products from Take Root (their popular kale chips available in assorted flavors), and have the popular Quest Bar protein bars available.
They have only opened the store to the public yesterday, but the selection is promising. "We'll add more as we go along," says Erwan Heussaff, one of the partners in Sprout. Whipping up the fresh and flavorful eats of Sprout is Chef Cheska Cariño, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and formerly of BGC restaurant, Premio. She has also worked in the US, and was a chef at Momofuku.
Heussaff also mentions that soon, another outlet will be sprouting up, this time in Ortigas Center. While we allow ourselves to indulge in decadent eats and heart-stopping feasts, balancing the diet is always the key to a better and healthier lifestyle (your body will thank you for it). Sprout has just sprouted yesterday, but the new grab-and-go convenience store is shaping up to be a great choice for on-the-go hungry folk that never want to compromise both freshness and flavor.
