The Big Blue Exhibit

The more you know, the more you care. And to get people to talk - and actually act - to care more for our planet, there is nothing more powerful than a message delivered by a baby.

That message is amplified a thousand folds when the baby is easily, and quite literally, the biggest in the world's a 2-month-old baby blue whale that is making the rounds in Asian countries to promote the conservation of marine life and ecosystems.

The "Big Blue" exhibit - where the exact life-size replica of a real baby blue whale is featured - would be displayed exclusively for viewers in five Ayala Malls, starting with Glorietta 5 this November 17.

Big Blue aims to educate people about nature and science, particularly the plight of blue whales which are one of the world's most endangered animals, said Jude Turcuato, National Geographic Channel's territory director.

The exhibit is made possible in the Philippines through the partnership of NGC, the Ayala Malls, and the Mind Museum. It is part of their efforts to encourage Filipinos to rethink the way they care for the planet to create a better environment for all living things.

The traveling exhibit, which was first displayed in Kuala Lumpur in March 2009, had since made stops in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan.

In the two-hour documentary shot in Costa Rica, the crew used a National Geographic Crittercam attached to a whale for two years to learn more about the way they live - how they mated, where they migrate, and what they eat, among others.

A shortened 15-minute clip of the acclaimed documentary will be shown regularly during the exhibit. NGC also plans to hold essay-writing and drawing contests to further drum up awareness among the public.

Catch the full "Big Blue" documentary as it airs on Wednesday, November 18 at 7 pm; Saturday, November 21 at 11 am; and Sunday, November 22 at 8 pm; only on the National Geographic Channel, available on Sky Cable channel 41 and Global Destiny Cable channel 45.

The "Big Blue" exhibit makes its splash in Glorietta 5 from November 17 to 26 (call (752-7272); Trinoma from November 28 to December 11 (call 901-3000); the Alabang Town Center from January 4 to 17 (call 772-1860); Market! Market! From January 18 to February 2 (call 886-7519); and Greenbelt from February 3 to 17 (call 888-8888).
