About the Event

Art is powerful.

It has the capacity to influence us, to make us think, and – in the most fortunate of circumstances – to make us move. It is brimmed with ideals, emotions, thoughts, and all of the other intangible, abstract concepts that would not have found a concrete space in this world without it.

But, even with the power to create worlds, galaxies, and universes and to contain untamed, unnamed emotions in a single blank canvas, it remains marginalized as the frivolous and the unnecessary.  A thing of luxury in this “developing” country.

But as Art has survived the centuries of societal and economical purge, it will survive the current divide that has enveloped our country. In the right hands at the right time, it will surface unmasked and with the truth.

The Lasallian Arts Month is an annual event designed to promote, encourage, and empower art and culture within and beyond the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) community. The event consists of a month-long season of productions from the Office of Culture and Arts’ student-artist groups (Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Company, Coro San Benildo, Dulaang Filipino, Karilyo, Stage Productions and Operations Team) which is open for the public.

Last year with the theme, “Awaken with Art”, it aimed to create a space for both Benildeans and non-Benildeans to come together and find like-minded people who share the same artistic ideals and passion. It specifically targeted the street and public school children around DLS-CSB’s campus with the intention of immersing them in art as means of keeping them in school and off the busy streets of Manila.

This year, set with the theme “Art Unmasked: The Truth in Art”, the Lasallian Art Month aims not only to promote, encourage, and empower art and culture, but also to provoke thought and movement within the audience by unmasking the subtly and obscurity of art to find the truth that lies beneath, and to find the purpose of this truth in our politically imbalanced and socially indifferent society.

The Lasallian Arts Month will launch on February 1, 2017 with a two-part opening, which will be held within DLS-CSB’s campus and is open for the public. The opening will include a forum with a decorated panel, an art drive for the public school children around DLS-CSB’s campus, and an art jam that is open for everyone and anyone.

So, join us as we unmask the truth in art and the power the truth can have.
