About the Event

In Marshalls of History, a call center led by Marcos loyalist Bimbam, Hector works as a troll who heckles at anyone who comments against the martial law days. When Bimbam tells Hector to believe in what he’s doing, Hector hesitates. However, his lack of attachment to any belief is used to make him unleash his callous words.

Meanwhile, the dead victims of martial law are being pushed out of the internet cloud by untruths and historical revisionism.

At home, Hector’s mother, Tere, asks to stay with him for a time; she doesn’t divulge exactly the truth about her health. Cons, Hector’s housemate who has a crush on him, welcomes his mother. Hector tells Cons about his childhood and why he has become estranged with his activist mother. Tere tries to reach out to his son, only to be met with indifference.

Hector then gets a “visit” by a ghost of martial law — Dr. Bobby de la Paz — who hopes to kindle Hector’s compassionate side, as he needs to look after his mom. Just then, Cons tells Heck that they need to bring Nanay Tere to the hospital.

Somehow affected by his mother’s hospitalization, Hector borrows money from his boss. Bimbam writes a check but doesn’t hand it until Hector gives him ideas on how to push the “strong man rule rules” project. One of the trolls think of creating a fake event at the human rights concert.

Cons calls Hector and tells him that his mother left home without leaving word about her whereabouts.

Hector forces himself to look for his mother. Two ghosts of martial law (also pushed from the cloud) haunt him about his harsh words and apathy toward victims of martial law. A macabre game show involving torture methods ensues. Hector asks them to stop and asks why they’re doing this.

The ghosts encourage Hector to ask “why,” and they explain in song why they had to be activists then. Further narrating their cause, the spirit of Eman and Edjop talk to Hector. Although they sacrificed to serve the masses, Eman and Edjop also express their longing to be with their family. Hector continues to challenge their views though, still thinking of his own abandonment issues.

Cons praises Hector for seeking his mother despite their differences. She invites him to their concert. Hector realizes it is the same concert where the other troll has created a fake event to create a clash between opposing believers.

In the concert, we find that Tere is in the audience. The fake event attracted a rowdy crowd, which led to a brawl. Someone calls Makisig (Cons’ band mate) an addict and stabs him.

Hector dresses the wound on his mother who was injured in the fracas. She then finally reveals to him why she has been alcoholic and why she has become distant. It is only now that she admits to her son about the torture and rape she experienced while in detention. She asks for forgiveness. Hector is about to forgive her, but before he could find the right words to say, Tere leaves.

As Hector posts anti-martial law memes under a different account, he resigns from Marshalls of History. Bimbam feels the ghosts of the past haunting him.

In an event to bridge generations of struggle, Cons’ band is poised to play a song. Hector then reads an old letter from his mother, after which, he salutes his mom and tells her that he will continue what she started.

As the video rolls, so will this new generation of millennials.
