About the Event
The UPLB Engineering Society was established on July 5, 2002 aiming to break the barriers among five engineering courses in the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology in UPLB, therefore forming an organization which is open to all UPLB engineering students. During its 13th Anniversary, the organization’s theme, “Coherence: Cultivating Ideas, Rooting Innovations, Branching Out Engineers”, cohered the aspiring engineers in nurturing their knowledge to create more advancements for their own field which, when collected, produced more inspired, unwavering and determined engineers.
On its 14th year of grateful existence and experience, the organization focuses on how it can unify the diverse engineering fields together in linking each improvement, so as to utilize for the betterment of the community, forming no boundaries in any possible perspectives. The organization celebrates its 14th year with the theme, “Engineering: Making Connections, Breaking Limitations”.
The week-long anniversary celebration includes three events: Anniversary Exhibit, Open Tambayan, and PagalENGan at SOCatan ng Talino, Swerte at Diskarte (General Education Quiz Contest). With the academic calendar shift that was implemented in the UP System, the organization decided to push through the anniversary celebration on October 17-28, 2016.
Anniversary Exhibit
The anniversary exhibit is an organization tradition in the University of the Philippines where organization set up a small yet grand gallery-type display during their week-long anniversary celebration. Its aim is to present the organization to the whole UPLB community and convey messages and new knowledge relevant to the organization’s anniversary theme.
Open Tambayan
As a form of promoting camaraderie among UPLB students, organizations prepare a food feast to be shared to the students of the university in the form of an Open Tambayan. All students have the privilege to enjoy the free food offered by the organization as a way of thanksgiving for another year of fruitful existence.
PagalENGan at SOCatan ng Talino, Swerte, at Diskarte
General Education (GE) subjects are required courses taken by all of the students in the University of the Philippines. It has three domains: Arts and Humanities (AH), Social Sciences and Philosophy (SSP), and Mathematics, Sciences, and Technology (MST). As a form of testing how UPLB students learn from these courses, the organization come up with a quiz-contest open for all bona fide UPLB students. Those who will emerge as champions shall receive cash prizes. Instructors and professors from the departments teaching courses from the three domains are also invited as judges. PagalENGan at SOCatan ng Talino, Swerte, at Diskarte XV will be held on October 26, 2016, 7pm, at UPLB Electrical Engineering Auditorium.
