About the Event

The first Philippine College Radio Congress (PCRC) aims to gather media and communication students, the academe and media practitioners in a four-day activity which will offer a series of lectures, hands-on workshops and interactive activities consistent with the theme “Amplifying Voices, Sounding Off, Building Connections.” It hopes to bring back radio to the hearts and minds of the Filipino youth dahil ang radyo ay pabago-bago, nagbabago, laging may bago at nakapagpapabago.

This project is part of the mandate of the Department as a CHED Center of Excellence in Broadcasting to provide academic and extension services to higher education institutions (HEIs) in the field of communication, mass media and broadcasting. Dr. Eli Guieb, Broadcast Communication Department Chair, pointed out that the Department wants to spearhead in the organization of “…extension work [collaborative] exchange in updates and developments in the discipline among HEIs.”

As a pioneering event in the field of radio – the first of its kind in the country – PCRC aims to strengthen knowledge and skills on radio production and related media and to rediscover the potentials of radio – its relevance and connection with the youth. PCRC hopes to “…put together a sharing of ideas that hinges on our histories in our experiences with radio and its related media,” says PCRC 2016 Co-Chair Professor Jane O. Vinculado while describing what PCRC aspires to offer. “We aspire to be a platform where participants learn from their speakers while their speakers learn from them. We want to form a collaborative relationship…This is exactly what you will get from PCRC,” Vinculado adds.

Speakers and facilitators of the lectures, fora and sessions in this event are respected personalities in the media industry including former UP CMC Dean Dr. Luis Teodoro, Atty. Rowie Daroy-Morales, award-winning scriptwriter Ricky Lee and other experts in the field of broadcasting. Dr. Elizabeth Enriquez, a professor in the UP CMC and the Chair of the CHED Technical Committee in Broadcasting, will give the keynote speech in the opening ceremony.

With the help of its sponsors and donors, PCRC will also be an avenue for financially-challenged communication media students to join the national congress.

PCRC will be held on September 27-30, 2016 at the College of Mass Communication, UP Diliman.
