About the Event
With over three thousand pioneers and leaders in its glorious roster, the Mu Sigma Phi has upheld true brotherhood and sisterhood, responsible leadership, advancement of scholastic and cultural welfare, and an unselfish spirit of service during its 83 years of existence. Continuing its undying tradition of celebrating its well-established pillars, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority will be hosting a series of activities for its annual Mu Week on August 22-26, 2016 with the theme, “Ablaze: Intensifying the Passion, Continuing the Legacy”.
The festivities will be kick started by an Opening Ceremony in front of a Grand Exhibit at the lobby of the UP College of Medicine building. On the 23rd, a Fiesta at the Hut for the medical community will be celebrated, a feast that also welcomes the newest members of the college, the freshmen. Wednesday is then packed with activities that uphold the pillars. For Brotherhood, the fraternity will hold a food eating contest entitled Siyempre Mu where freshmen race to finish a plateful of beef tapa and pizza as a chance for the freshmen to interact with various members of the UP community and to enjoy good food and fun. For Service, the sorority continues its annual program for the pre-school children of Creche Preparatory School called Alay sa MUsmos. This year the sorority brings the zoo as they give the kids a chance to get a close encounter with animals like snakes and turtles. And finally for Scholarship, a Dermatology Kodachrome Review will be held at the UP PGH Sentro Oftalmologico Jose Rizal to prepare the freshmen for their first taste of medical life.
Next up, on August 25, will be the launching of its first photography and photo editing workshop that is open to the public entitled Pub Med 2016. It is aimed at providing an avenue for enhancing skills on professional photography, photoshop, and mobile photography through a 2-hour interactive workshop with speakers coming from various professionals in the field. Next would be ImMUnity, an awareness campaign that seeks to promote the importance of disease prevention through immunization, especially among health practitioners. It continues to be a great success since its launch during the 75th year celebration of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority in 2009.
To end the week’s festivities, a Thanksgiving Mass will be offered at noon as an expression of gratitude for the 83 glorious years. And to cap off the day is the most awaited Mu Rock, a rock-and-roll style live karaoke for both the freshmen of the college and the alumni of the Mu Sigma Phi.
