About the Event

Tenor Arthur Espiritu, the country’s pride, returns to share his artistry with the Filipino people in a unique concert on the themes of love and hope entitled “The Poet Within” on Aug. 26, Friday, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ayala Museum, Makati City.

He will perform the monumental Schubert song cycle Die Schone Mullerin (The Maiden on the Mill) with English translation and some well-known French opera arias.

Described as “a regal tenor who possesses a beautiful lyric voice filled with agility and color, exquisitely beautiful legato lines, a buttery voice that is capable of conveying a broad range of emotion and character,” Espiritu has slowly conquered the international opera arena with his artistry.

In a review of his recent debut at Magdeburg Opera as Rodolfo in La Boheme, critic Rolf-Dietmar Schmidt wrote: “Arthur Espiritu as Rodolfo was undoubtedly the discovery of the evening with his role debut in Magdeburg. He captured the hearts of the audience by storm.”

His coming performances include his debut with the Australian Opera as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme and as a Sheperd in Symanovski opera King Roger, and in Bellini's Il Pirata with the St. Gallen in Switzerland.

He will reprise his highly acclaimed portrayal in Bellini's La Sonnambula in Munich, to name a few. A graduate of University of New Orleans and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Espiritu is a recipient of the distinguished 2009 George London Award, the Scala Award at the Belvedere Competition in Vienna, Irene Dalis Voice Competition, Opera Birmingham Voice Competition and a finalist at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition.

This special concert is made possible through grants from Ayala Museum, 98.7 DZFE-FM The Master's Touch and Lyric Piano.
