About the Event

Mark your calendars this February as the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) celebrates the colorful culture and arts of Japan with the Nihongo Fiesta 2016. The annual Nihongo Fiesta showcases the Japanese language, arts and culture through events like the speech contest, quiz bee, film screening and J-Pop concert.

The Nihongo Fiesta 2016, which will be held at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall (EDSA, Mandaluyong City) on 27 February (Saturday), will feature the following programs: 43rd Nihongo Speech Contest, 8th Nihongo Quiz Bee for High School Students, Anime Screening and J-Pop Concert.

The 43rd Nihongo Speech Contest gathers Filipino students and non-professionals from all over the country to prove their excellence in the Japanese language through speech. An all-expense-paid week-long study tour in Japan awaits the Champion and the Outstanding Performance Awardee. It will be held at Shang Cineplex Cinema 1 (6th level) starting at 10:30a.m. The Anime Screening of “Sarusuberi: Miss Hokusai” will take place at the same venue at 3:30p.m.

The 8th Nihongo Quiz Bee for High School Students brings together high schools from Metro Manila as well as other regions to best each other in a game of knowledge on the Japanese language and culture. The quiz bee will be conducted at the Shangri-La Plaza Grand Atrium at 11:00a.m.

The J-Pop Concert, which will also be held at the same venue, will feature guests such as Kawaii 5 at 5:00p.m., and Diana Garnet, Joe Inoue and THE BEATMOTORS starting at 5:30p.m.
