About the Event

Follow your passion. Do what you love. Make a decent living. Does anyone really get to do all three? Often we are made to believe that the best you can do is get one out of three.

Writers Ana P. Santos and Nikka Sarthou - Lainez would like to think otherwise. The two who are behind Writer's Block Philippines know a thing or two about turning passion into profit.

Santos left a cushy banking position as Assistant Vice President to pursue a career as a freelance journalist. Meanwhile, Sarthou-Lainez has maintained a career as a full-time freelance writer-editor for more than a decade.

"We were always being asked how to get started in writing and then always asked if it is possible to make a living from it," said Santos who is a two-time Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting grantee.

Answering that question was the reason behind forming Writer’s Block Philippines (WBP). Santos and Sarthou-Lainez began conducting writing workshops that would help aspiring writers jumpstart their freelance writing career.

Dozens of writing workshops and hundreds of participants later, they continue to do what we love and love what we do.

“Globally, the creative industries are booming. To maximize this shift in the marketplace, we need to learn how to be creative entrepreneurs," said Sarthou-Lainez, a former travel ambassador for Moleskine notebooks.

To help creative professionals along, WBP will bring together successful creative entrepreneurs who are at the top of their game and are eager to give participants the needed fist pump to take the first leap (it’s never just a “baby step”) to starting their creative enterprise.

Writer’s Block Philippines is hosting the second Creative Entrepreneurship Summit on 05 March 2016, Saturday,1-5pm, at Commune Cafe, Polaris corner Durban Streets, Poblacion, Makati.

Guest speakers include Marielle Nadal founder of CraftMNL, fashion photographer Niccolo Cosme and performance artist Carlos Celdran.

Entrance Fee: P500.00 (inclusive of coffee and snacks)

Running a creative enterprise can be taught. But to think like a creative entrepreneur, one needs to learn how to create a balance between passion and profit from other creative entrepreneurs.
