About the Event

The UP College of Music in the year leading to its Centennial in September 2016, presents as part of its Concert Series a distinct musical collaboration of Faculty and Alumni achievers who have made their mark in the international, national and institutional music and scholarship arenas - in tribute to the institution which nurtured their musical excellence.

The evening is unique in three dimensions. Firstly, the performers are award-winners: Fides Cuyugan-Asensio (Gawad CCP), Joy Virata (Araw ng Maynila), Beverly Shangkuan (American Choral Directors Association Competition First Prize), Montet Acoymo (US National Association of Teachers of Singing First Prize), Eudenice Palaruan (Filipino League of Composers), Agot Espino (Gawad UP Chanselor) and Raul Navarro (National Book Award); as well as NAMCYA winners Ed Pasamba and Luz Morete.

Secondly, the performers have led their groups to garner awards in international competitions: Michi Martinez (UP ARCO String Orchestra), Mark Anthony Carpio (UP Madrigal Singers), Janet Aracama (UP Concert Chorus) and Jonathan Velasco (Ateneo Chamber Singers).

Thirdly, the performers themselves will present the repertoires for which they won their awards, or for which they themselves wrote the music or libretti. In addition: a musical rarity: the “GLORIA” from the “Mass for Three Choirs” (a capella) by the Renaissance master G.P. da Palestrina will be sung by combined contingents from the UP Madrigal Singers, UP Concert Chorus and the combined voices of the award-winning soloists.

The concert shall be at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium, UP College of Music in Diliman, Quezon City at 6:30 pm on Thursday, February 11. Ticket inquiries may be made from Yvette at (63 2) 926-0026, with 50% student discounts available.
