About the Event

It’s that time of the year again when Manila’s preeminent Chinatown, Binondo, will once again buzz with spectacle and activity as the Filipino-Chinese community welcomes the Year of the Monkey. And there’s certainly no better place to celebrate the coming Chinese New Year than in Binondo’s premier lifestyle destination – Lucky Chinatown.

Together with the help of the local government of the City of Manila, Lucky Chinatown is marking the occasion with a three-week long festivity starting February 1 all the way to February 21, a grand celebration that will feature an exciting lineup of spectacles showcasing the best of Chinese tradition and culture along with star-studded events for everyone’s enjoyment in what is easily the grandest, brightest and most spectacular Chinese New Year celebration in the Philippine capital.

“We want to give our customers a Chinese New Year celebration like no other by coming up with an exciting lineup of activities, promos and even a sale to usher in the Year of the Monkey. We want our friends from the Filipino-Chinese community to welcome the year in high spirits and inspire them to climb to greater heights this 2016,” said Megaworld First Vice President and Commercial Division Head Kevin L. Tan.

The festivities kick off on Feb.5, 4PM at the Atrium with a must-see musical showcase featuring the super talented The Voice Kids finalists Kyle Echarri and Elah Nympha. On Feb.6, from 10AM onwards, guests can witness Binondo-based schools and organizations create eye-catching Chinese lanterns at the Chinese New Year Lantern Festival, launched in partnership with the Kou Shou Art Club.

Celebrations will be in full swing on Feb. 7 at Lucky Chinatown’s Countdown to Chinese New Year 2016. Leading the opening ceremonies, to be highlighted by a lion and dragon dance from Philippine Ling Nam Athletic Federation, Dotting of the Eye of the Chinese Lion and the Ceremonial Gong, is the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc and officials of the City Government of Manila and Manila Development Council. Colorful Chinese cultural performances from CFBCI partner schools and organizations follow at 2PM and will run until 6PM.

Starting 6:30PM, the celebrations kicks up a notch with musical performances from today’s brightest and most popular recordings stars such as Juris Fernandez, Ebe Dancel, Yeng Constantino, Itchyworms and Julie Ann San Jose. Capping off the live performances at the Atrium is the popular love team of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.

The Countdown to Chinese New Year 2016 continues at the Lucky Chinatown Walk at 11PM where Feng Shui Master Johnson Chua will be sharing his predictions for the Year of the Monkey. The festivity ends with the Lighting of the First Incense, a ritual believed to make wishes come true, and the grand fireworks display, which will light up the sky at 12MN.

More musical performances await everyone at the Chinese New Year Countdown at the Manila Chinatown Gateway Arc located near Jones Bridge cor. Escolta St. also on Feb. 7. Starting 7:30pm, revelers can rock with today’s hottest bands including Mayonnaise, Kenyo, Pedicab, The Dawn and KZ Tandingan, and enjoy a grand fireworks display at 12MN.
