The Harlequin Theatre Guild first staged the play at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute of the Cultural Center of the Philippines last February 2008. It was again brought to life last October 2008 at the SDA Black Box Theatre of College of Saint Benilde.
Ang Unang Ulan ng Mayo was penned by J.I.E. Teodoro in the year 1997. This is Teodoro’s first play written in Filipino. The play was awarded the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature, Filipino play category.
Unang Ulan ng Mayo tackles the sensitive issues of homosexuality in a conservative society. It encourages the viewers to challenge the prevailing perspective towards homosexuality. All this is portrayed in a tearjerking comedy of a play that was much-loved then and will surely be loved again.
